Some Small Projects

Just a quick recap of a few items from the workbench.  I have a couple of scenery items and a couple of Horrorclix zombies.  These have been staring at me from the workbench for a while, I was glad to finish them off finally.

First thing I did was build a Plast Craft Games building I got for Christmas.  It's from the EWAR 28 line.  It's listed as a grocery, part of the WW2 France building collection.  It is printed foamcore that basically snaps together, with some parts getting glued.  It built very quickly, I think I had it done in under 30 minutes!  It has a basic interior, and as a bonus, it comes with a destroyed version as well.  It's not spectacular, but it makes a nice building for the table.

It will work best as part of a wargame, like Bolt Action.  As it has a destroyed version, it fits nicely that wherever it is located on the table, if it is destroyed, you have that version ready to go.  Nice idea, and it works well enough.  I had hoped for a ground floor, but I can deal with it being a single large room on the ground.

It comes flat packed and is very clean and very well printed.  I'd love to see some other buildings like this.  If I get a chance I'll look at getting a few more, they have some townhouses that would be good for urban filler.  I have left off the French sign for now.

In addition, I painted up a Dark Heaven Bones dumpster.  I'm happy with how it turned out.

I had a busted toy van I found last summer and it's been just sitting.  I finally based it and turned it into a wreck.

I love taking old and broken toys and making them scenery.  This car was busted up for me already, no wheels and a crushed top.  Some black and rust paint makes it a decent wreck.

Finally I have two zombie cops from Horroclix.  I just did some painting, added some gore and based them on smaller bases.  The Horroclix line has some fun models, and they make for good additional zombies in the horde.  Too bad they are getting hard to find.

That's it for the update.  I'm hoping to get more productive, as well as figuring out how Dawn and company are going to handle their prisoners!

Zomtober Week 5

This week was slowed down by a water leak from an upstairs shower to a ground floor closet.  Quite a mess!  This slowed down my progress on my zombie horde...

I worked on two groups of toxic zombies from the Toxic Mall expansion for Zombicide. I added yellow/green highlights to designate them as 'toxic'.

I also repainted (mostly just retouching the existing scheme) a Horrorclix 'candystriper' which seemed to be a vampire type character of some sort.  I repainted the flesh to be less pale and red and more normal.  I added some additional red touches to her outfit and then based her on a plastic coin decorated with some craft paper to look like a tile floor.

Finally I added a trash dumpster from Reaper Bones.  Great item for the urban landscape.  I left the lid unglued so it opens.

Another Zomtober comes to a close.  It was pretty productive, although I didn't quiet hit my goal of finishing my Zombicide zombies off.  At least progress was made! 

I really enjoyed everyone's entries, they were quite inspiring.  Besides the painting, the background stories and mix of survivors and zombies gives great ideas.  If you haven't already seen the other blogs, check out the links from my page - there are some very excellent Zomtober entries out there!

Another week down, and another Zomtober recap!  I am continuing to paint the Zombicide and Zpocalypse minis, similar to last week.  I have a few added zombies from Horroclix and two survivors as well!

Three Horrorclix zombies, first a 'Pod Zombie' from the Lab expansion, the other two are from Freakshow, "Zombie Vendor" and "Zombie Ventriloquist".  They will add a touch of character to things.  They have had their paint touched up, though the vendor is a bit of a conversion.  I removed his box of bottles and repainted his outfit to resemble a McDonald's outfit.

The pair of survivors are a touched up Horroclix "Big Red" and a Wargames Factory Survivors: The Women build.  I love the pose from Big Red, rolling up a sleeve and holding a fire axe.  The woman is apparently a female version of John McClane from Die Hard, as she is missing her shoes...

The horde grows!

It's been a great excuse to finish some painting and getting some new survivors made without a pressing need.  The Zpocalypse figs are finished off, now I will concentrate on the Zombicide minis.

Walking Dead comes back next week, gotta love Zomtober!

Slow Times, Small Survivors

I'm still alive, but the recent releases in Fallout have taken my free time.  Survival mode is much more fun and brutal, much more like what the game should be.  Now with mods support for the Xbox One (which I am playing on) it's been like a whole new game, a couple of times over!

I did manage to clean up my workbench area, I added a couple of new lights and some shelves.  I still need to to organize a ton more, but it's coming along nicely.  As part of the clean up, I found a couple of children figs I was working on and finished them off.  I am using a play/replica plastic penny for their base (I have a ton of these type coins) as it's cheap, a bit smaller (they are kids) and once textured, works just fine.

Three of the figs are Horroclix, two of them are from the same miniature, Monster Patrol.  I didn't modify the miniatures at all, just gave them a wash and some dry brushing.  The first mini is the Horrorclix Little Damon, again just with some repainting.  The girl with a pistol and the boy with an SMG are both Wargames Factory survivor models, using parts from the sprues.

At some point the Commonwealth won't need my help (as much) and I'll get back to the zombie apocalypse...

More for the Horde

Things have been slow on the zombie apocalypse, Fallout is still draining most of my free time.  I did manage to get some more zombies painted and based.  These are all various Horrorclix, I picked them up at some online clearance sales.  Re-positioning some arms, repainting and basing them is all I had to do.

I have three delivery men, originally in a bright green uniform.  I painted one in a USPS/FedEx blue and the other in UPS brown/yellow.  It's hard to tell, but the brown uniformed zombie had it's arm re-positioned, otherwise they are all the same pose.

The next group is four construction workers.  I replaced one arm and re-positioned two others.  The re-positioned arms didn't want to stay very well, so they all have a very similar look.  I painted them with different shorts and pants, but they are still all more or less the same.

The last fig is a strong man of sorts.  He is quite large and holding a top half of an unfortunate victim.  All I did was give them some paint and a "zombie wash".  He'll make a decent 'special' if I need one, or just a scary fellow to run into.

These were hanging around my painting table, I've been working to clean the area up a bit and these were an easy project to finish.

Now, if Fallout would just be less fun...

New Survivors

In the last batrep we met Joyce, Brenda and Eric.  They are civilians, hopefully soon to become full survivors.  The two women are rep 4 and Eric is only a rep 2.  I figure at Rep 2 Eric is either old or young, I roll a 50/50 chance and he comes up as a youngster.

Eric is based off of a Horrorclix, the Monster Patrol, the young boy with a slingshot.  I added a bolt action rifle from the Survivors: Men set from Wargames Factory.  I did a bit of a repaint, but kept the basic colors more or less the same.

Joyce is a Survivors: Women build from Wargames Factory.  I added a large backpack from Secret Weapons, but otherwise she is a pretty stock miniature.

Brenda is a Heroclix figure with a repaint and a spear from the ancient Persians sprue that was available from Wargames Factory a while back.  I had tried some more fantasy looking as well as more sci-fi looking options, but I didn't like the results.  The hand on the heroclix is a bit small for a much larger weapons, and I tried to reinforce the joint with the weapon to make it less likely to break during play.  We'll see if it lasts!
