While on a trip, I found a toy helicopter at a second hand store - it was already broken (missing tail rotor, broken main rotor) and cost me all of a quarter. The helicopter had a local news channel scheme on it, and it gave me an idea for some scenery.
Some pictures for inspiration:
I had to cut open the front windshield, and I used a car interior from my bits box to create an interior. The main rotor was already mostly broken, so I didn't need to do anything there. I cut off the tail and made some "gubbins" to simulate the damaged systems.
I threw a few pieces from the bitz box around the base to look like scattered parts. I wanted to have a door open or missing, but the amount of cutting to get one open didn't seem worth the work.
Overall I wanted something that looked like a downed news helicopter, would break up line of sight, and could be used as an objective if I ever so needed. Overall I am happy with the result, and the cost was certainly good.
Comments welcome!
Nice work! The weathering is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really neat, I like it!
ReplyDeleteDid you consider putting the tail on a separate base from the body, so that they could be positioned further apart?
Glad you like it!
DeleteI did consider separating them, but in the end I decided to keep it as a single piece of scenery. Plus the main capsule just didn't look as dramatic on its own.
Awesome stuff,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mathyoo on the weathering, it really looks the part
That is an excellent conversion and the paint work is first class.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff, excellent technique.
ReplyDeleteGreat find and an inspired use as a wreck, it could also make a focal point fr games either as an objective (rescue) or a starting point (crash survivors) as well as another useful pieceof scenery.
ReplyDeleteI was considering using it as an objective marker or something similar as well when I made it. That's another reason I didn't put too much debris on the base, it doesn't hamper figure placement much, and still looks like it was a survivable crash.
DeleteThat looks fantastic great job mate!
ReplyDeleteReally nice work sir. Love the weathering effects.
